How To Properly Hook Up Speakers to Amps

Thank you Keith, i think i got it. Looks like i hooked the “tower” four speakers to two channel Sony amp. For some reason two wires going from “L” post on the amp power Right two speakers and two wires going from “R” post on the amp power Left two speakers. Probably just a matter of swapping some wires. For native 4 channel amp that i want to hook up to 4 in-house speakers and two subs the amp’s manual calls it Tri-mode operation wants me to insert “high pass filter capacitors and a low pass filter inductor into the wiring”. No idea what that is and do i really need it. Don’t even know what the “crossover frequency you wish to achieve”. Otherwise system sounds goood. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom if there are any. Wire the 2 pair of in-boats to chnls 1 and 2, set that half of the amp to hi-pass.

How to Bridge a 4 Channel Amp

I use these stores. I can’t vouch for ads below. One is not enough While just one subwoofer is enough to enjoy movie sound in 5. While low frequencies are less directional, and the direction of a low-frequency sine-wave point-source may be less perceptible, critical to fine music reproduction are low-frequency interchannel phase differences present in true stereo recordings.

When reproduced properly with stereo subwoofers or two full-range speakers , these phase differences are critical to reproducing the sound space of the original concert hall. Critical even to casual listeners is that if you sum the low frequencies of true stereo recordings into mono by using only one subwoofer, low-frequency interchannel phase differences partially or completely cancel each other, reducing or eliminating low-frequency output levels!

Lets start with the 2 channel: 2 channel amplifiers We will start with the most common, the two channel amplifier. The two channels amplifier is designed for running just that. Two speakers! The most common use for the two channel amplifier is: Rear speaker amplification ; Driving a pair of sub woofers ; While there are many uses for two channel amplifiers.

Connecting 2 Amps to 1 Sub? I have a friend who use to work in the Best Buy install bay, and he told me it was a bad idea If i connected it all right and set the amps the same, and not too high, wouldn’t it work just like a W amp? Anyone ever done this? It depends on the setup of your sub. Techically if its dual voice coil you can do it, but seriously dude That said, I can guarantee you that if you are looking for louder bass there is better ways to do it than doing something as dumb as wiring two amps to one sub.

I would only do something like this if you had both amps lying around. If you have one and have to buy another or something just sell yours and buy a bigger amp.

Ask Question Step 3: I decided to not cut up my PSU cables as i may need the computer it came from at some point, you will need to find the pins shown in the pic, they are on the connector that was originally on your motherboard, the cables should be green and black, any black ground connector will do the trick. Now a quick check, turn on your PSU and if the fan spins you’re all set for the next step.

Add Tip Step 4: Wiring Your Amp So you have your amp ready?

2. Run speaker wire from the positive terminal of channel one to the positive terminal of the first subwoofer. Use the wire stripper to strip about ½ inch of insulation from both ends of the wire, and clamp the speaker wire down securely in the amp’s terminal using the screwdriver.

Separate Components preamp and power amp Ideally you need to be running separate preamps and power amps. You use a separate low-level crossover to split the preamp’s output into main high-frequency or HF and sub low-frequency or LF signals. Feed a stereo crossover from the outputs of your preamp or player. The crossover’s HF outputs are fed to your main amplifier and speakers. The crossover’s LF outputs are fed either directly to powered subwoofers, or to your bass amplifier and passive subwoofers.

If playing from a computer, Pure Music software also works as a crossover.

Can i hook up two subs to a one channel amp?

Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide. Most solid-state amplifiers would rather look at an open circuit no speaker at all than a load. Therefore, you can usually use a load that is higher than the recommended load.

Jan 25,  · Subwoofer wiring question – one connection on receiver but two on sub My Onkyo TX-SR THX HDMI receiver has one single sub hookup (a coaxial connection I just like any other RCA jack).

All you’re talking about is trying to allow the “Beat” to hit the same point in front of it as I am. The difference is that you’re suggesting that some LOW end be eliminated from a speaker that designed to take a full range signal. Why would you not use the speaker for it’s entire purpose? In some cases you have a Folded Horn sub, which would cause the sound to travel longer vs.

That “phase” issue that you are talking about would be an issue if he had a SET of subs working against another set of cabinets that supposidly would put out enough bass to possibly cancel each other out. The only way they would cancel each other out, is if one set is “Pushing” and one set is “Pulling”. But back to this person’ setup.

They already have a Full Range system that is working. The “overlap” that you’re talking about should be controlled by the cutoff frequencies that you designate for the sub. What you’re not getting is that the “Overlap” that you’re talking about is in reference to the cuttoff frequency that the sub would be set at. Now instead of sharing the LOW frequency across 3 speakers, you are channeling it all through one sub.

But what the manufacturer is not showing you is the bandwidth vs. Quality of bass and how well it integrates into a system is paramount. If I have to sacrifice a bit of extension and SPL to achieve this, so be it.

Mar 04,  · NOTE – Most subwoofers use an active crossover and a separate power amplifier for the sub. In a “powered” or “active” subwoofer, the amp is built into the speaker cabinet. In a “powered” or “active” subwoofer, the amp is built into the speaker cabinet.

How Do I Hook Up my subwoofer? Hook up Powered Subwoofers: Receiver Pre-Outs Before trying to hook up your subwoofer, you need to identify the connections it has. First, take a look at the back of your subwoofer. There may be more, but this is all you’ll need to properly connect your subwoofer. The last piece of prep work is for you to check your receiver.

Can i hook up 1 sub to a 4 channel amp?

How to hook up a subwoofer to a stereo system Hint: You don’t necessarily need a receiver with subwoofer output jacks. Subs can provide a foundation to the sound that few speakers can muster on their own.

Oct 23,  · Someone told me before that you can hook up car subs and amps to a home stereo using a car battery, a converter and a couple wires. hook your two 4 ohm 12″ subs in series mode. to do this, connect the positive on sub #1 to positive output on the amp. take the negative on sub #1 to the positive on sub #2, then connect the negative on sub #2.

How to hook up 4 ohm subs, with 2 ohm amp. Originally Posted by Droppedime08 Sorry the amp is pioneer. Or can i run it by 1 ohm? Or will 4 ohms sound better than 1? I have bad news for you, your amp and subwoofer dont mesh very well. Your subwoofer is a dual 4ohm unit, which means you can either wire each 4ohm coil in parallel fr a single 2ohm load parallel halves the impedance , or you can series the two 4ohm coils to get a single 8ohm load series doubles the impedance.

You didn’t list the ohms rating for the amp at the x1 setting, but from the other specs I can tell its only stable to 4ohms mono mono means X1 because its lowest setereo rating X2 is 2ohms. Bridging an amplifier means its running at one channel rather than the two, but they work by wiring to one side of each of the 2 channels.

An amp that is bridged sees half the impedance load to each channel. So wiring your amp to 2ohms mono as I described above would result in the amp seeing a 1ohm load to each channel, which the specs say it is not stable for. You’re gonna have to wire the sub to 8ohms mono or 4ohms stereo one channel to each coil. I suggest 8ohms mono as it wont require summing the signal mono before the amplifier as wiring it in stereo would you dont want stereo seperation going to each coil on the same speaker

How to Check if your Speakers are Wired Correctly

February 3, I have the AMP and am currently using it to power my 2 front speakers in my 7. Would the AMP be able to power the subwoofer in addition to my 2 front speakers? Also, which subwoofer do you recommend of the two noted? The location would be lower front left corner of room approx.

Then, bridge channels one and two of the amplifier to power one subwoofer and bridge channels three and four to power the second subwoofer. This is done by connecting the positive polarity of one wire with the positive terminal of channel one and negative polarity of the same strand of the wire with the negative terminal of channel two.

Wiring Multiple Speakers Calculating Impedance Loads This calculator is intended to help you determine the impedance of a speaker or subwoofer wiring configuration. There are many ways you can connect multiple speakers together. The most common and best way is to connect them in parallel. You do this by connecting the positive speaker wire from the amp to the positive terminal on the first subwoofer. In the picture below, one channel is shown.

Then, you connect the positive from that first subwoofer to the positive of the next subwoofer. You can connect as many speakers together like this as your amplifier can handle. Before you attempt this, be sure of what your amplifier can handle.

Is it possible to hook up two speakers and a sub to a 2 channel amp?

Last updated 13 November, 26 Very different to the type of amplifier you may have in your home stereo, PA power amplifiers are designed to run at high levels for long periods of time. In the first part of this four-part series we looked at the basic elements you need to know about when it comes to DJ PA systems. In the second part , we carried on laying the groundwork by answering some common newbie questions.

It is vital that the amplifier can supply sufficient power for your speakers say W , but your speakers also need to be able to handle this amount of power.

Subwoofers exploit the non-directionality of human low frequency perception by creating bass for all the other speakers in a 2-channel stereo or home theater surround sound system. Bass is critically important to the enjoyment of any music or cinematic content.

Reading, Pennsylvania yea id agree with ya,,, id probably spend the extra money and get the one that plugs into the harness though,, will make for a cleaner install and plus if you ever wanna change out the head unit all the wires will be behind the head unit AvenDanger said: I assume you have the standard system, and if so try this kit from PAC. It plugs in between the factory radio and the factory harness and converts the signal to rca line level, and includes a remote turn on lead.

The two modules are NOT interchangable, so make sure you know whether you have Boston or standard. These are spendier solutions, but they are plug-n-play, and will yield the best sound quality. Otherwise, you can buy a basic Line Output Converter and attach it to the rear speaker leads to get an RCA level signal into the amp. In most older cars, you could usually dig around in the harness and find a switched power source for the remote turn on, but since the Avenger has a can-bus wiring system, some wires do more than one thing making this practice unsafe.

To get a turn on lead without one of the above modules, tap into the power outlet in the dash or console. Do a search on the term LOC and you’ll get a lot of results from people on here who’ve added subs to their factory radios. Good luck, have fun, and post up some pics when you’re done!
